The oldest open month

Say the month, even if you are guessing, and say that you are guessing. March, or maybe February, or I have not closed a month this year. All three answers let us start. A polished story is less useful than a rough true one.

If a bookkeeper or a software setting has been telling you that you are current, and you do not believe it, say that too. Disbelief is often the most accurate figure in the file.

The day, and who chose it

The day you need might be yours, or a lender's, or a preparer's, or a buyer's. The source matters. A day you chose can move. A day a lender chose might still move if you ask early, and it will not move if you ask the week before.

Bring the day even if you suspect it is too soon. We would rather move it in the first conversation than discover the miss in the third week.

What you can leave out

Leave out the fee you hope to pay. Leave out a long history of who disappointed you, unless one fact in that history changes the count. Leave out account numbers. The form only opens the conversation. It is not a place we keep secrets.

If you want the month after the day, you can mention it. You do not have to decide. Mentioning it lets us keep it off the cleanup line, where it does not belong until you are sure.

What you will hear back

You will hear whether the day is honest, what the list under it would include, and what stays outside. Sometimes you will hear that you do not need the service. Sometimes you will hear that the day has to move by a month or two. All of those are complete answers.
