The day is the first line

Before a statement is opened, the paper names a day. That day is the end of the project. It is not a mood, and it is not the word current written by itself. If the paper cannot say the day, the paper is not ready, and neither is the work.

Owners are used to a sentence that says the books will be caught up. That sentence has no calendar. It can be true in March and still be the sentence in November. The engagement on this site is not allowed to sound like that. It has to survive being read aloud on the day it names.

The list under the day

Under the day, the paper lists what current includes. The bank tied through that day. The cards tied. Loan balances agreed to their statements. Open items named, or honestly empty. A year already filed is either left alone or written as a separate decision. A yearly report a state may want is either in the list or named as still open.

What is not on the list is not in the project. Writing it down is how the edge stays visible. A lender's signed opinion, the month after the day, and the act of running payday are the usual things people hope will come along for free. They do not. If you want one of them, it gets its own line, or it stays outside.

Who can say the day is wrong

You can. We can. If the oldest open month and the day you need cannot live in the same promise, the honest engagement is a different day, or a smaller list, or a no. We would rather rewrite the paper than start a project that cannot end.

The fee sits on that same paper, after the day and the list. Until that day is written down, there is no price to give. You can ask what finished looks like on the named day before anyone talks about cost. That page carries the day, the list, and the fee in that order.

What you leave the call holding

You leave holding a day, a start month, and a list you could hand to someone else without a speech. If a line is fuzzy, it is fuzzy on the paper, not in a memory of the call. Later arguments about what was included go back to that page, not to a thread.

If the months turn out to be few and already matched, the paper can also say the service is unnecessary. Hearing that is useful. A practice that can only say yes is not naming a day. It is filling a calendar.
